  This work is performed under the broad policy guidance of the Mayor and Council and involves exercising supervision of personnel directly or through subordinate supervisors. The work involves performing administrative and supervisory work planning, organizing and directing of the public works program of the city. Duties include providing overall direction for the various activities, planning of capitol improvements for sanitation, electrical, parks  and recreation, swimming pool, streets and alleys, water and wastewater, shop, museum and cemetery. Assisting subordinates supervisors the authority to direct operations, prepare or review budgets, and supervise personnel within their assigned responsibilities; advising the city officials, boards, and commissions on engineering and related public work matters, and developing or revising general policies for the expansion, operation and maintenance of municipal public works facilities. Actively involves staff and necessary resources to assure co-operation between departments to promote the most effective use of the city's resources.
