Building & Zoning  2006 Zoning Codes

This work is performed under the broad policy guidance of the Mayor and Council and requires the performance of facility planning, facility layout and the performance of technical inspection work in the enforcement of building and zoning codes and ordinances. Some of the duties are:

Meeting with the City and County Planning Commission. Develop and implement programs as directed by the Commission and Council; Meeting with the Airport Commission. Develop and implement programs as directed by the Commission and Council. Specific programs include grant writing, airport operation records and insure that Airport Layout Plan remains current; Working on the Wellhead Protection Program. This task includes data collection and evaluation of soils from irrigated farm land and turf areas; Working on data analysis associated with 319 Monitoring Programs. The position also includes developing, implementing and conducting future long term groundwater quality monitoring programs; completing statistics on landfill biannual groundwater samples, field surveys as required, compaction testing, insure that the permit is current and prepare proposals for any contract engineering services.

Duties:

Construction

Examine and review building construction plans to insure compliance with local building codes and ordinances. Issue building permits.

Inspections

Inspect buildings being constructed, repaired, or remodeled for compliance with building, zoning and/or plumbing code and ordinance requirements. Conduct field inspections of foundations, framing, plumbing and heating life safety provisions, fire suppression systems, lighting, ventilation and sanitary provisions for conformance with appropriate codes; issue Occupancy Certificates to buildings meeting the requirements.
